About

I'm Gianluca Scattarella, a 3D environment and technical artist. I build environments and the tooling that makes them shippable — lighting, shaders, scene optimisation, the unglamorous part where a scene that looks right also has to open, move and render.

This blog is where I write about the industry I work in. Not news for its own sake — I'm interested in what a decision cost, how a thing got built, and what a release tells you about the pipeline behind it. That angle is the whole reason the site exists: there is no shortage of people reporting what shipped, and rather fewer asking what it took.

How the blog is made

I run a research pipeline that watches the trade press and flags what's worth covering, and I use AI tooling in drafting the way I'd use any other tool in a pipeline. Nothing goes live until I've read it and approved it. The scores in reviews are arithmetic means of published verdicts, and every source is listed under the number so you can check it. Where a piece leans on someone else's reporting, it links to them.

The editorial responsibility is mine. If something here is wrong, that's on me — tell me and I'll correct it.

Working together

I take on environment and technical art work — 3D modeling, rendering, concept art, animation, graphic design and art direction, all listed on the services page — and I'm open to partnerships on the editorial side — review units, tool coverage, sponsorship. Details are on the partnerships section, or just email me.
