The second of Nintendo’s two shows this week starts in a few minutes, and this is the one that carries the schedule.
16:00 Italian time — 7:00 PT, 10:00 ET, 23:00 JST — and it is billed at roughly 45 minutes on Switch 2 games shipping this winter. Yesterday’s was the Zelda anniversary broadcast, thirty minutes on one series. This one is the general Direct.
What the framing tells you
Nintendo said winter and it said Switch 2. That is a narrower brief than the usual September Direct, and the narrowness is the interesting part of the setup, because the calendar it has to fill is unusually short.
Ocarina of Time landed on 5 November yesterday. GTA 6 is in the same month. Whatever Nintendo shows in the next three quarters of an hour has to sit either side of a game the rest of the industry has spent a year moving away from, and there are only so many weeks in a winter to do that with.
Nintendo Treehouse: Live follows the broadcast with extended play of some of what gets shown, which is usually where the actual detail is — a trailer tells you a game exists and a Treehouse segment tells you how it moves.
I will have the round-up an hour after it ends.
